Nuisance Wildlife Control Law and Regulations

The most important part of any wildlife service is to make sure we are following state and local laws regarding nuisance wildlife control. Every technician should be familiar with the state laws regarding licensing requirements, trap usage, relocation or euthanasia of wildlife species, disposing of animals and more. The agency that regulates these laws and regulations differs from state to state. Use the link below to find the information on who regulates nuisance wildlife control in your state and familiarize yourself with the information. Check back regularly for changes and updates.

Response Times

Responding to client requests in a timely manner is an important part of a technician's job. Below are the required response times to various client requests.

  • For all customers that call and request to speak with their technician, technician SHOULD call within 4 hrs but if delayed  MUST call by end of same day. Technician must note the account with details of call or if message was left.
  • For all customers that call and want an exclusion/bat inspection, technician SHOULD call by end of day to schedule and MUST call within 24 hrs of customer request. Inspections MUST be completed within 1-3 days of call to office, unless customer prefers a later time. Technician MUST note the account with details of call and or if message was left.
  • For all customers with emergency animal removal or trap transfer, technician MUST call immediately to schedule and service is same day. (Work order may be placed on next day on the calendar by the office.)
  • For all customer with a dead animal removal, technician MUST call same day and service is to be completed as soon as possible within 48hrs of call to office (weekend hours count, too!). If customer requests a later date, it must be noted on account.
  • For all customers with a bird in vent, technician MUST call same day and service is to be completed as soon as possible within 48hrs of call to office (weekend hours count, too!). If customer requests a later date, it must be noted on account.
  • Trapping MUST be started within 24 hrs of acceptance, unless acceptance comes on Friday, Sat, Sun and then it will start Monday. Inspections and exclusion proposals MUST be completed and shared with customer within the first 3 trips. Technicians MUST talk with the customer about findings( in person, call, email) within the first 3 trips. Note account of this or move forward if accepted. If unable to talk to customer, note account and try a different communication method, like email. If customer does not accept exclusion you need to inform them of when trapping will stop and that no exclusion has been accepted before you close/ pull traps. This is a great opportunity to close any unsold exclusion.
  • Friday starts/Saturday checks are allow during the busy season when we have Saturday coverage. Used for customers who would cancel job with a Monday start.
  • Note: Trapping may be scheduled same day if you haven’t started your route/haven’t completed any stops in that area, if a customer is adamant about service starting same day. CSRs may also call and ask if it is possible if you have already serviced that area.

**If you are unable to meet any of these response times, you must contact your Supervisor prior to missing the response times so other arrangements can be made to accommodate.**

Bat Certification

Technicians must be bat certified in order to perform bat inspections by themselves.  If you are not bat certified all bat inspections should be sent to your supervisor.  If a bat inspection is sent to you in error, you must move it to your supervisor and contact them to let them know.

There are 3 requirements to become bat certified:

  1. Complete Ridge Guard installation course
  2. Attend rookie camp, which includes a bat certification course
  3. Have worked as a wildlife technician throughout one bat season, assisting on jobs as needed
