  • Where to use: In commercial buildings
  • Pressure: Any
  • Targets: Non-protected bird species
  • Equipment: Air rifle in case, scope, identifying vest with name, cleaning supplies (paper towels, gloves, disinfectant), eye protection
  • Safety:
  1. Talk with your supervisor before attempting aggressive harvest
  2. Check all state and local municipal laws
  3. Treat every air rifle as if it were loaded
  4. Never point a gun at something you are not willing to destroy
  5. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot
  6. Always be aware of your target and what is beyond it (i.e. people, pipes, fire suppression systems, glass windows/skylight)
  • Before:
  1. When proposing service always use the term "aggressive harvest" instead of shooting/killing as the professional industry terminology
  2. Talk to customer to gather information and schedule first, identify best time of day with least people present
  3. Document observations and stipulations by customer such as time of day, interference
  4. Perform a site inspection with contact to determine where birds are most active, identify flight patterns
  • Day of Service:
  1. Notify site contact upon arrival and have them notify anyone else on site or remove workers/close business if needed
  2. Wear a vest or other uniform identifying yourself along with necessary safety equipment
  3. Keep the air rifle in the case until attempting a shot and put the air rifle back in the case immediately after, the air rifle can look intimidating to people onsite
  4. If the bird is in an area you can't shoot (i.e. over food area) use a laser to move the bird. Bird calls will also work to attract birds and make them move, especially males
  5. Remove any dead birds and clean up areas using a microbial disinfectant
  6. Record results of harvest accurately in the log report
  7. Check out with onsite contact and schedule a follow up if needed
  • After:
  1. Aggressive harvest should be used in conjunction with other bird control methods
  2. Follow-up with deterrents to keep birds away
